Can a message change everything?
The woman seemed touched but this answer and jumped a bit behind on the chair; a few seconds later, she was back on track, ready to show one of her famous smiles.
“So, what are you asking us? What do you want from us?”
Again, the man stayed calm.
“Leave us another message. In the note you passed to us, you asked us to build the Hill of Sacrifices and, on top, to create the Gate of Ancestors. If today we’re dying, it’s because of your insane message. If you never wrote that, we could come back here without problems. We’re coming in peace; we’re your grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the blood of your blood.”
The room got silent, three long silent seconds that seemed never-ending.
“Mr Alien…”
Started the presenter.
“I am not an alien, madame!”
Answered the man from the future, which became to feel nervous. In the future he was coming from, there was no TV. He began to think that the description of the past they made was too idyllic; they based their whole culture on that idea of the past and now that he was there, he saw nothing but a fraud.
“Sure, as you wish.”
Answered the woman, calling with a silent nod the security.
“Thank you so much for being with us today and I hope you’ll come soon to visit us. And now, some advertisement.”
The man from the future left, taken by security without any resistance. When the show was aired again, a few minutes later, it was the turn of Nino, the extraordinary man that could eat thirty sandwiches in less than a minute.
The interview attracted some attention and the newspapers started writing titles like:
“Aliens are among us. What you need to know to recognise one.”
“Shooting aliens for sport: a simple game or homicide?”
No one mentioned the message.
But an opposition still existed inside the Parliament.
“There is no proof that the explosion was intentional. Au contraire, after a thorough inspection, we can say that it was a tragic accident. Sure, you can argue he wasn’t a legal resident, but we don’t have proper laws regarding the people from the future.”
They started asking to do what common sense and humanity imposed them; they asked to call them humans and not aliens and that the scientists’ message sent to the future should be modified. In particular, building the hill and the gate on top was premeditated murder.
The Government, with a solid majority, went in the opposite direction. There were laws against the aliens from the future; they called them invaders and someone began to say that if they wouldn’t be stopped, soon they’d ask to inherit the money from whom they continued to call their ancestors.
It was suddenly the chaos.
Suddenly, it was illegal to help the aliens that survived the “jump”, but even assist them in any other way. Pillows, and mattresses amassed under the jump, were removed by the authorities.
It was officially open the alien-hunting season.
A few survived, mainly thanks to the hill of corpses underneath them. Even when they survived the jump, they were still in shock, these people started being chased by armed men and women shouting, “Go back to your place” and “Go back to the future!”
Let’s make another step back, when everything was decided inside the Parliament.
